Plateau State poultry farmers decry re-occurrence of Bird flu

Plateau State Chapter of Poultry Association of Nigeria, (PAN) on Thursday raised the alarm over the re-occurrence of Avian Influenza in the State.
The Chairman of PAN in the State, Mr. John Dasar raised the alarm, in a chat with journalists in Jos, the State capital.

According to him, already three farms have been confirmed to have been affected by the disease. He could not, however, tell the number of birds that have been infected.
“Poultry farmers and live bird marketers are advised to step up bio-safety and hygienic measures within and around their farms and markets,” Dasar advised.
He also advised the public to avoid the sale, slaughter and consumption of sick birds.
“The public should ensure that chicken products are properly cooked before consumption,” he further advised.
