Sahara Reporters Using False Information Against Saraki

Throughout the tenures of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki as the governor of Kwara State and even in his first term as the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Sahara Reporters never saw anything wrong in Saraki's leadership in those positions; never reported any wrongdoing by Saraki.

Sahara Reporters' attacks against the Senate President, saraki began shortly after he emerged as the Senate President against the wish of the cabal. In the quest to pull down Saraki, Sahara Reporters has engaged in many unprofessional acts against the ethics of journalism by reporting falsehood against him.

In one of its stories published on 16 July, 2017 titled: "Recall of Senate President Saraki will Commence on August 1st Despite Threat of Violence,  Group Insist", Omoyele Sowore was working towards sponsoring such a recall which the youths and people of Kwara Central Senatorial District rejected any influence by Sowore to act against Saraki.

In another story published by Sahara Reporters in collaboration with Premium Times on 5 November, 2017 titled: "#ParadisePapers: Saraki, other World Politicians Exposed in New Offshore Leak", the report presented false information against Saraki in relation to an offshore shell company owned by Saraki. Both Sahara Reporters and Premium Times did not present any convincing evidence justifying their claims against the Senate President.

The Special Assistant to Saraki on International Relations, Bamikole Omishore, says, "the company involved was incorporated in 2001 when Dr. Saraki was still in the private sector and did not hold public office.... It is a dormant company which had never transacted any business, did not hold any bank account and has no asset.

"It should also be noted that there is no illegality committed by Dr.Saraki in the incorporation and existence of the company at the time he did.

"On the issue of whether it was declared as part of the assets of the Senate President in the Code of Conduct form for public officers, I am aware that the Senate President has fully complied with the law in the declaration of assets concerning all the companies in which he has subsisting controlling and substantial shares", he said.

Despite all these distractions, Saraki has remained focused on delivering on his promises and repositioning Nigeria for the overall interest of all Nigerians.
